ANDDA's members are a diverse group with an important common interest in the Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goat.

Take a look at the results of a recent poll on our member yahoo group. It looks like we had almost 30 members respond to the poll. Some questions had multiple answers available.

Please continue to the bottom of the page for other interesting member information.

1) What goat products do you make for either home use or sale?

17 members make soap; 9 make lotions; 24 make cheese and 9 use their goats for meat.

2) How many years have you owned Nigerians?

12 have owned Nigerians 1-5 years; 6 for 6-10 years and 8 for more than 10 years.

3) Which of the following do you participate in or plan to in the next year?

DHIA Milk Test - 16
One Day Milk Test - 20
Linear Appraisal - 21
Classification - 8
Dairy Goat Shows - 25

4) How many Nigerians do you currently own?

1 member answered 1-5 Nigerians
3 answered 6-10
7 answered 11-20
11 answered 20-50 and
6 answered more than 50 Nigerians owned

5) Do you own other dairy goat breeds? YES - 11 /// NO - 17

6) Do you own unregistered Nigerians? NO - 22

Four said they owned 1-5 unregistered Nigerians and One said she owned "more than 10"

There was a member that misinterpreted the poll to include unregistered kids born this spring, so it remains uncertain whether or not we have a member with more than 10 Nigerians that will not be registered.

7) Which Registries do you use for your Nigerians? (not a part of the question but undoubtedly some members use more than one registry)

27 - ADGA
17 - AGS
7 - NDGA

8) Why do you milk your goats (consider both milk and milk product use)?

25 milk for home use
6 for farm or small scale sales (such as Farmer's Markets)
0 for commerical production"
22 for raising kids
0 for don't breed or milk

A member questioned having a category for those that milk only for show, and there probably are a few of those. Most of those probably also fall into the home use or using milk for raising kids.

23 member herds are currently listed as being on ADGA or AGS DHIA

Many members have won Best in Show awards with their Nigerians

ANDDA's various award programs recognize achievement in the show ring, on the milk stand, and honor the all around Total Performer
